Drum Lessons with John Sayre at Coffey Music

Get to know John Sayre:

John received a bachelor’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory in 2003 where he studied percussion under Robert Van Sice. After college, John taught at Coffey Music for three years.

From 2006-2016 he served as a musician in the U.S. Air Force where he performed as a big band and rock band drummer, timpanist, and percussionist. John has performed as a percussionist with the Annapolis, Maryland, Richmond, and Virginia Symphonies, and as a drummer for numerous weddings, private parties, and corporate events.

Musicianship, as opposed to “drummership”, is the foundation of John’s teaching. John offers a wholistic teaching approach, stressing; injury-free technique, active listening, proficiency in a variety of musical styles, real-world skills for the working musician, and the student’s musical goals.

If you’re a busy adult who always wanted to play in a band with friends, John can help you with that tricky groove in “Rosanna”, or the intro to “La Grange”. If you’re a middle or high school student who needs help preparing for All-State Band, Solo and Ensemble, or a college audition, John can also help you develop a solid and well-rounded foundation in percussion. John is available to teach drum set and percussion at Coffey Music on Saturdays and beginning summer 2017, weeknights.
