John has been playing guitar for 37 years.  He started with a self taught approach and then studied guitar with a private instructor. After his first 3 years of playing and studying guitar, he joined his first band, Spectrum, in 1980. He performed through out the Maryland area, mostly playing the popular rock music of the 70’s and 80’s. He continued to strive to advance on guitar being inspired by the great players of the 70’s and 80’s. He studied guitar with a great teacher in 1985 named Howard DeHuff with whom he was able to gain command of guitar concepts that he previously could only wonder about. In 1992, he co-formed Badmouth, another Baltimore based rock band. Badmouth had inclinations in original music along with playing the popular rock music of the 80’s and 90’s. He played guitar on the band’s CD of original music which did get local radio air play. Natures ChildCharlie Don’t Surf, and Slip were other Baltimore based rock bands that he played with after Badmouth.

He began teaching in 2004 and in 2005 joined MoeStringz accompanying Moe Agostini in which he played acoustic guitar and played electric guitar in NoStringzAttached, which is the full-band version of the acoustic duet, MoeStringz. He played electric guitar on the NoStringzAttached CD of original music. He’s been performing with MoeStringz and NoStringzAttached to the present. As a teacher, he believes in the use of the self regenerating power of the students own inspiration. The excitement from being able to play something familiar after breaking it down, grasping it on a simpler level and then putting all back together, gives the student a feeling of achievement and success as a player.
