Get to know John Christ:
John Christ (John Knoll) was the original lead guitarist for the internationally known rock and roll band, Danzig. He is also a professional musician, performer, composer, and guitar instructor. After thirty years as a professional musician, he returned to Baltimore to continue his education in music. He holds an Associate’s degree in Music, and is pursuing a Master of Music degree at McDaniel College. John serves as an adjunct professor at Peabody Prep’s newly developed Rock ‘n Roll program. He is also an adjunct professor at Carroll Community College, teaching applied guitar, bass, and directing the Guitar Ensemble.
Mr. Knoll performed on more than six critically acclaimed rock and roll albums when he was Danzig’s lead guitarist. John has received gold CD awards from the Recording Industry Association of America(RIAA) for his work with Danzig. Danzig’s hit song, Mother, was an international Billboard top 200 hit in 1993. Danzig also toured with Metallica, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Sound Garden, Korn, White Zombie, and Marilyn Manson through the U.S. John also toured with Danzig through Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, parts of Asia, and South America, giving hundreds of performances. He performed on The Jon Stewart on MTV, and met Robert Plant while on tour in Europe. John has been listed as the 63rd best Metal guitar player by Guitar World magazine and has an international reputation as a guitarist, being sourced in Wikipedia, and Google. In honor of his accomplishments, John’s image is featured on a wall mural in his hometown of Catonsville, Maryland.
After leaving Danzig, John worked playing on movie soundtracks and composing music for movie and television trailers. These movies have starred actors such as Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, and Jane Seymour. John also performed for TV stations such as ABC and Nine Network Australia. These performances included playing live with artists including Tom Jones and Lou Rawls. In 1998, John released his solo CD, Flesh Caffeine.
Over the years, John has taught blues, rock, and folk styles and provided training in performance, improvisation, and composition to advanced students. He has worked with acclaimed Grammy winning producers, Rick Rubin and Brendan O’Brien, during the production of several Danzig projects.
