Ben Sherman / Guitar
Ben’s teaching career with Coffey Music began in 1984, and over the years he has become Coffey’s most experienced and sought after guitar instructor. Today, there is more interest in guitar than ever, and Ben is happy to be helping a new generation of guitarists reach their highest potential.
Ben brings un-matched experience and resources to his teaching practice. He has created an extensive library of original lesson material, and is continually expanding it. Ben uses a computer in the teaching studio to provide additional learning materials and to produce original audio examples for the student to take home.
Ben offers lessons for beginners to advanced, age 10 and up, acoustic and electric, rock, jazz and classical, and specializes in teaching music theory in a practical, easy to understand way.
The insights Ben can provide to students are based on his own intensive studies, as well as his long and varied performing career. Ben grew up listening to jazz, studying classical music and teaching himself rock and roll. Since joining his first band in 1975, Ben has played thousands of gigs over the years, in just about every style of music. He studied classical guitar for 10 years, with a B.S. degree in guitar performance from Towson State University. His current activities include a full-time teaching schedule, regular free-lance performing, and a recording career, having produced two CDs of original jazz-rock music, and a classical CD with flutist Marlee Lindon. His first guitar instruction book is currently in production.
Ben has been honored many times for his achievements on the guitar, including a feature in Guitar Player magazine, being a finalist in the North American Guitar Competition, and winning Best Instrumental Musician in the Music Monthly Readers' Poll.
"My goal is to inspire students to strive for excellence, have fun, and discover the power of music to express ones' self and connect with people."

Richard Tipton / Guitar, Bass
Richard B. Tipton has over 45 years experience playing all styles of guitar from Classical, Jazz, Fusion, Country, Reggae, to good ol' Rock-n-Roll. As you will see, Richard is a man of "many hats"
In his early years, he was stationed in Hawaii and played guitar for the U.S. Army Stage Band, which gave him a strong sense of song structure and a wide musical vocabulary.
After his stint in the Army, he played guitar for a 10 piece horn group, "Content Under Pressure" and he has shared the stage with the likes of Don Ho, Maynard Ferguson, Hall & Oats, and Hank Jr.
Richard has mastered the art of "Chicken Pickin", which is a hybrid lead guitar picking style or technique used in country, rock, and metal music where the plucked strings are pulled outward (i.e., away from the fretboard instead of parallel to the fretboard) by the fingers of the right hand and the note played immediately dampened by increasing the pressure of the left hand's finger on the fret.
Richard can teach you guitar from the ground up to the Theory of how music is composed, the Modal Concept of Music and Free Form Ear to help you become a master musician who can compose his/her own; and improvise over the works of others.
You can find Richard on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdhvDMuC1UU#
David Wentz / Guitar
Dave Wentz is a 2008 music graduate of McDaniel College and has been playing guitar since the age of 13. He has been a performing singer/songwriter since he turned 16, and has teaching experience in various genres including rock, folk, and jazz.
Dan Vogel / Guitar
Dan has been playing music professionally, both on stage and in the studio, for over twenty-five years. His ability to adapt to different musical situations and diverse styles has landed him gigs with label country acts (Tammy Graham, Tommy Shane Steiner), urban gospel artists (Eric Moore, Andre′ Venson), Austin blues legends (W.C. Clark, Major Lee Burkes), Hall of Famers (Johnny Gimble, Hank Thompson), jazzers (Bobby Lyle, Lance Ellis), and modern pop/rockers (Gavin DeGraw, Malford Milligan). He has performed for movie stars, sports greats, rock royalty, and even the President of the United States. As a teacher, Dan is able to draw from his experience as well as his solid, “working” grasp of fundamentals and theory in order to guide each student toward the “next level” in their playing.
